RESTORING CONCRETE SLABS

Restoring concrete with densifiers before apply the epoxy base involves applying densifier liquid chemicals (like silicates) to harden, strengthen, and dustproof surfaces by filling pores, making them resistant to abrasion, moisture, and chemicals, ideal for old or new floors in homes, warehouses, or patios, often after grinding the concrete slab.

What Concrete Densifiers Do

  • Harden & Strengthen: React chemically with concrete to form harder compounds, increasing surface integrity.
  • Dustproof: Eliminates concrete dusting, a common issue in older slabs.
  • Resist Stains & Moisture: Creates a denser surface less prone to oil, grease, and water penetration.
  • Improve Durability: Reduces wear and tear from traffic, making floors easier to clean and maintain.

How great densifiers work.

Concrete densifiers are chemical treatments, typically silicate-based (lithium, sodium, potassium, colloidal silica), that penetrate the surface to react with calcium hydroxide, creating a hard, durable calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) gel that fills pores, significantly increasing surface hardness, abrasion resistance, and longevity, reducing dusting, and improving overall performance for both new and existing concrete.

Enhanced Bonding

  • Reaction: Densifiers deliver reactive silica into the concrete's microscopic pores.
  • Calcium Hydroxide (Free Lime): This byproduct of cement hydration is a weaker part of concrete.
  • CSH Gel Formation: The silica reacts with the free lime to form calcium silicate hydrate (CSH), the same durable gel that gives concrete its inherent strength.
  • Permanent Hardening: This creates a denser, harder surface, permanently filling voids and strengthening the cement matrix.
