The one day epoxy flake installation has a 8 PSI moisture vapor barrier. The two day installation has a densifing filler, and this product give the best moisture vapor barrier.

Can epoxy be applied over tile?

NO.

Epoxy Floor Coating Benefits Are?

Epoxy is a thermosetting polymer which is available in three different formulations for a garage floor coating and sealer;solvent based, and 100% solids. These formulations allow for varying degrees of thickness from 3 mils to over 10 mils for a single coating for a garage floor. They also allow for ease of application, special bonding characteristics, and VOC considerations. Epoxy bonds extremely well to properly prepared concrete and can sometimes be used as a resurfacing agent for old or worn concrete that need a new garage floor surface. The best epoxy formulations are 100% solids and provide for an extremely hard, thick, and helps impact resistant surface. This self-leveling thickness contributes to providing protection. It also works well against hot tire pick up, scratching, and wear from abrasion. Though some epoxy formulas come with U.V. inhibitors, they will still eventually yellow or amber as the industry calls it when exposed to sunlight for any length of time.

What are the benefits of Polyaspartic topcoat coatings.

Like epoxy, polyaspartic topcoat is a thermosetting polymer as well and is considered a high performance coating. It is commonly known as urethane for short, though that it is technically incorrect and there is actually a big difference between polyaspartic and urethane. If someone is advertising a urethane coating, it is actually polyurethane. Of the different formulations available,aliphatic polyaspartic is the desired choice for garage floors. Though they are approximately 90% solids depending on the manufacturer, a polyaspartic coating is only about 2 to 3 mils in thickness and can’t be adjusted as with epoxy. Don’t let the thinner dry film thickness fool you however. Aliphatic polyaspartic has more flexibility than epoxy and it is this flexibility that aids in absorbing impacts better. It is also much more abrasion resistant, in fact, some manufacturer’s claim that the wear resistance of polyaspartic over epoxy is almost 3 to 1. The resistance to chemicals is better than epoxy as well and includes solvents such as methylene chloride which is the primary ingredient in paint stripper. Another advantage of polyaspartic over epoxy is that it is U.V. stable. This means that it won’t yellow like epoxy does when exposed to small amounts of sunlight. The surface of polyaspartic is not as hard as epoxy but it is much more scratch resistant, can tolerate larger temperature swings and handles humidity much better. It is also available in different finishes from satin to very glossy. Though polyaspartic has many advantages over epoxy, it does not bond well to concrete and its thin dry film thickness will not work well as a self-leveling coating to fill in small cracks and divots in the surface.

What exactly is a Metallic Floor?

Metallic epoxy floor coatings are a hot new trend that is a very high tech and exotic looking flooring option. These coatings create a glossy and deep looking floor with a variety of different colors and visual effects. Some even create a beautiful three-dimensional appearance that gives the illusion of craters, ripples, and swirling rivers of metallic looking plasma. Metallic Epoxy is a line of metallic mica pigments designed to be dispersed in a variety of binders to create seamless floors with a unique three dimensional appearance. These floors are perfect for retail establishments, night clubs, automotive showrooms, residential interiors and garage floors. The use of the high-performance epoxy/polyurethane resins makes the Metallic Epoxy System an exceptionally durable long-lasting flooring system. Metallic floors do not look like solid pigmented floors. Metallic floors are created by the artistic ability of each and individual installer. If you have five installers doing the same colors on five different floors, you will see major differences on all five floors. Metallic floors are strictly an artistic system with so many different options that one can do. The options are endless.

Are metallic epoxy floors durable?

As beautiful and stunning as these floors look, they are considered a high performance floor coating that is designed to last for years. For the first coat they require an epoxy primer to be installed. The second coat involves the actual metallic epoxy coating followed by a third coat of clear on top. It’s not unusual to add a fourth coat if applying polyurethane as a top coat. As a result, you end up with a very thick coating due to the amount of coats involved, especially from the metallic coat. These metallic coatings are just as resistant to oil, salt, chemicals, acids, water, and wear as any other high performance epoxy garage floor. Maintenance is easy and the amount of light they reflect is outstanding due to the glossy nature of the surface. Like any other epoxy coating, they can be a little slippery when wet if you don’t use an anti-slip additive in the final top coat. These metallic coatings are just as resistant to oil, salt, chemicals, acids, water, and wear as any other high performance epoxy garage floor. Maintenance is easy and the amount of light they reflect is outstanding due to the glossy nature of the surface. What kind of options do I have with Metallic Epoxy?

You have many options. With Metallic Epoxy you can just have a metallic look that is created from the chemicals of the product that is created once the floor is cured out and the chemicals react with each other, you can have the hammer and crater looks that is caused from spraying different types of chemicals on it, you can do multi colors drip, pour or splatter wet on wet. Or you can have a base color with pigmented metallic powder mixed in your spray to get a different color or colors sprayed all over your floor. The Metallic Epoxy look and effects are endless.

Is coating stem walls included in the price of the floor?

Coating of stem walls depend on what type of system you are going with. If you were to go with a pigmented floor (solid or chips) they are included in the square footage of your floor. If you are going with a metallic floor, stem walls will not be coated. The reason is that stem walls are vertical and metallic floors are translucent. Not only will you see the concrete under the product, you can not work with color blends on a vertical structure plus gravity will leave run marks.

I just bought a brand new home and have not driven on the garage floor yet. Do I still need you to prep the floor?

Yes, regardless of whether the floor is 30 days or 50 years old we use a state of the art diamond grinding vacuum system that removes contaminants like oil, greese, years of built up of dust and dirt, this opens the pours up. This allows the epoxy to get a better bond by absorbing into the open pours of the concrete for a superior bond.

What Are The Benefits Of A Garage Floor Epoxy Coating?

So what makes garage floor epoxy the best flooring options for your garage? Besides looking nice, an epoxy garage floor has an abundance of benefits. Because of the hardness and thicker application that you get from epoxy, this type of concrete coating is very durable and resilient to impacts, chipping, and surface abrasion. You don’t have to panic if you drop that wrench or a bicycle falls over. The thicker coating also does a great job of covering over minor imperfections such as small surface cracks and flaws in the concrete. It is also anti-dusting. Much of the dust in a garage is from the cement floor itself and has a tendency of collecting on cars, tool benches, and storage items as well as being tracked into the house. And finally, it is light reflective. It will brighten up the look of your garage without having to add additional lights. For the mechanics out there, a garage flooring option such as epoxy is both chemical and stain resistant. That means oil, brake fluids, anti-freeze and other caustic car chemicals can easily be wiped up without worry – even if it sits for a while. Rolling tool boxes, jacks, and jack stands will not damage the floor. It’s naturally moisture resistant which is great in the snowy seasons and makes it easy to clean as well. Just a little mild soap and water is all it takes. Depending on whether you added paint chips or not and the thickness of the topcoat, some surfaces can be a little slippery when wet. If you want some extra grip you can add slip resistant aggregate to the final coat.

I want to paint my walls in my garage. Should i do it before or after my floor gets coated?

I would recommend you paint your walls after the floor gets coated because you might get some over spray from the roller. If you spill any paint on your newly coated floor, it wipes right off.

I am getting garage cabinets! In what order do you recommend I go with?

I recommend you get your floor done first, beacuse when the cabinet are install it makes it tougher to install.

How long will I be out of my garage from once the process starts?

From start to finish, it will range from 2 to 11 days, depending on whether you choose a solid color or a chip floor or a Metallic Epoxy floor. After installation is complete, there shall be no foot traffic or any foreign objects whatsoever on the serviced area for two (2) days. No vehicle traffic for 72hrs. If polyurea fast cure installation is applied at 77 degrees or higher, no foot/vehicle traffic or foreign objects whatsoever for twenty-four hours (24 hrs). If below 77 degrees then it’s forty-eight hours (48 hrs). Failure to comply will void warranty.

Why would I want UVR in my polyaspartic and what happens if I do not have it?

UVR stands for ultra violet resistant. It is a special additive that protects the polyaspartic from fading, oxidizing or yellowing. Coatings without this special additive will have a much shorter life due to our harsh sun. Quality Epoxy always puts UVR additive in all of our polyaspatic at no extra cost to you. This is because Epoxy.la believes in providing our customers with the highest quality floors.

What is the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic and do I need both?

It is very critical that you do have both epoxy and polyaspartic down on your floor. Epoxy is what permanently bonds the system to the concrete. Epoxy alone as the finish coat can yellow and chalk when exposed to U.V light and as a general rule have inferior stain and abrasion resistance when compared to a polyaspartic coating. The use of pollyaspartic on top of your epoxy provides that show room look you always wanted. Polyaspartic topcoat provides you with a nice high gloss shine, no fading, no oxidizing, no chalking, and very easy clean up.

My floor already has a coating and or sealer on it. What do i do to have my floor re-coated?

Call Epoxy.la and we will have your floor diamond grinded. This will allow a superior bond to prevent peeling.

I currently have oil stains on my concrete floor. Will it be a problem to remove?

Not at all.

I have separated garages, but I need to coat only one at a time because I have a lot of items I need to store in it.

Epoxy.la charges a minimum of 400 sq.ft, and you will be charged the minimum.

Do you have a minimum size?

Yes, the product comes in a minimum quantity to cover 400 sq. ft.

What Is Hot Tire Pick Up?

Hot tire pickup is a common question regarding epoxy floors. This is caused when the hot tires from your car can soften lessor quality or thin coatings. The tires then cool down and contract after driving causing the tire tread to literally grab and pull at the surface of the still soft coating causing it to delaminate. This problem is associated more with an epoxy paint kit, but not a professionally installed or commercial quality coating. Since most commercial brand epoxy is 100% solids, floors like these can run between 10 – 30 mils in thickness compared to only 3 mils for a store bought kit that is only around 30% solids. Because thicker coated epoxy floors like these wear so well, warranties of up to 7 years for installation by professional installers is becoming common. Many manufacturer’s of 100% solids epoxy warranty the product itself for the life of the floor.

Cleaning Instructions

Cleaning your epoxy floor on a regular basis is very important. The longer you wait to clean, the harder it may be to remove all the spots. Recommended cleaning procedures:

Back out your cars and remove any objects that are on your floor.
Use a leaf blower to blow out your garage floor.
Use an industrial mop and mop your floor.
Let floor air dry.

*Never use anything abrasive to clean your floor because that can scratch the surface.
